Awww, thank you anon!  But I kind of don’t really have any deep thoughts about Marco to share, at least not anything that hasn’t been said by other people before.  He was an interesting and well-developed character, despite his lack of screentime. I think that fandom tends to woobify him a bit and tends to overlook that he’s assertive, observant, self-possessed, unashamed of his goal to join the Military Police despite Eren constantly shaming the rest of the training squad about that, and apparently a strong enough personality that even Jean will defer to him sometimes.  I think his reasons for wanting to join the Military Police are actually a lot nobler than Jean’s reasons (and he even calls out Jean on trying to say otherwise waaaay back in chapter 3 of the manga). And I think he makes a good foil for Jean, not just because of the obvious balance of their respective personality traits, but because Marco clearly sees right through Jean’s wannabe ~edgy~ bullshit and to the type of person that Jean really is.  For all we know Marco might very well have been the only person who ever saw through Jean’s act, since the rest of the 104th (and their instructor included!) seems to take Jean’s personality at face value.  (I mean, just look at how constantly surprised everyone except Marco is when Jean actually starts stepping up and doing heroic shit.)  And the fact that Marco told Jean his honest opinion of him clearly had a huge impact on Jean.
